Charly García cumplió 75 años entre flores, balcón y unabrazos de colegas

Desde la madrugada del 23 de octubre, fans y músicos waited en the corner of Coronel Díaz and Santa Fe, in the Palermo neighborhood, to celebrate Carlos Alberto García Moreno’s 75th birthday. The scene was emotional: people brought flowers, posters and songs, while some windows were decorated with red, orange and yellow flowers, black ribbons and pentagram cutouts. When García appeared on the balcony, the crowd greeted him with a collective embrace that crossed generations and made the birthday visible in the street.

The celebration was not limited to the fans gathered outside. Colleagues from different stages and generations sent messages, shared archive photographs and performed live. The birthday became a chorus of voices that remembered not only a musician, but also a central figure in the history of Argentine rock.

A birthday with music in the background

Colombian singer Carlos Vives, who has identified García as a central influence on his artistic path, sang “El fantasma de Canterville” during the special Reloj de Plastilina program, broadcast by Mega 98.3. The program also recalled the figure of guitarist García López.

Lali Espósito chose a black-and-white photograph from García’s early years, quoted the refrain of “Necesito tu amor” and wrote “Amor total”. The public affection between the two artists has lasted for more than a decade through public praise and meetings in the musician’s circle.

“Nos dijeron: sos nuestra máxima rockstar, te faltaba la cárcel. Me dieron una noche divina, inolvidable.”Moria Casán

Moria Casán also told, during a television appearance, that García had invited her to the celebrations through someone close to him, although she could not attend. The actress and vedette described him as “a father of music” and recalled that, after returning from nine days detained in Paraguay, Fito Páez and García organized a Christmas party for her.

Páez was another colleague who marked the date with a message in the early hours of the day. He thanked García “for not being afraid”, a reference to the way the musician faced decades of Argentine history through his songs. The phrase also described the affection of a country that saw itself reflected in his work.

Photographers who had portrayed García at different moments of his public career also shared images from the archive. Andy Cherniavsky posted a photograph with him under the words “Hoy cumple el más grande, el que nos cuenta nuestra propia historia”. Nora Lezano selected four images, ranging from a 1999 show to a 2025 encounter, and wrote: “Gracias a la vida que me dio a Charly. Celebro sus 75 amándolo y admirándolo como hace años.”

  • Fans gathered before dawn at Coronel Díaz and Santa Fe, with flowers, signs and songs.
  • García appeared on the balcony to acknowledge the tribute.
  • Carlos Vives performed “El fantasma de Canterville” on Reloj de Plastilina.
  • Lali Espósito, Moria Casán, Fito Páez and photographers joined the celebration with words and images.

At 75, García received a birthday that was both intimate and collective. There were songs from the balcony, greetings from fellow musicians and the presence of many fans who grew up with his songs, then found in his music the memory of their own lives. As the day left its mark, the celebration felt less like a private anniversary than a public acknowledgment of a shared history.
